Who Am I?

April 19, 2008

The first place to start is always the introduction. I’m 23 Years old and live in “Happy Valley” city, dear old Provo, Utah purely by choice. I’ve lived in Massachusetts, New York, Kansas, and Missouri – I actually was born outside of Utah . . . So yes, I do know and love the life outside of the “bubble.” If you haven’t guessed already, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Even more, I’m a returned missionary. I served in the Missouri Independence Mission – the majority of my time was spent in Kansas, I loved it! The people were so wonderful. It was a hard experience; I’ll give you that. Not because I was away from home, I was actually never home sick, but because of all the amazing things that happened while serving. I’m employed as a personal assistant / graphic designer. I’ve studied 2 years as an art major. UVU (Utah Valley University) is my home now. I’ve never gone to BYU but someday would love to follow in the footsteps of a woman named Susan Easton Black and study Ancient Scripture there.

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. My life seems to be filled with it. When I was 15 – 18 years old I was what they call “less active” in my faith. I was blessed to come across a dear friend who showed me the gospel and helped me understand and taught me about receiving answers to prayers on my own. I’ve witnessed first hand the miracles that have happened through the priesthood. I’ve had prayers answered and know deeply that someone does hear and answer my prayers. The Book of Mormon really is a record of ancient Americans. I don’t need the world to tell me it’s true, I’ve used the principles outlined in the book as a guide for my own life and have had a greater desire to serve the Lord because of it…

Other than the gospel I love art and try to surround myself with it. I once heard someone say that great painters were great painters in the pre-earth life, because we loved our Heavenly Father so much and he had that talent. And unconsciously, or sometimes even consciously, they try to replicate that veag memory of the love we felt in the life before. The same goes with musicians, singers, mothers, fathers, etc… I love to study art – museums are my favorite hangouts. Painting is so relaxing for me. I wont say that I’m a master, but I wouldn’t say I’m bad at it either.

I love knowledge – to be able to spend a life time dedicated to just reading would be ideal! I wish I had all the time in the world to soak it up. I’m actually writing a book. It’s been progressing for about a year now. I hope to someday finish and publish it.

Music – don’t get me started! I love all kinds: classical, country, blue grass, big bands, jazz, contemporary, alt, oldies, oh goodness, I could go on forever! I play the guitar and a bit of the piano. I was in a band from the ages of 16 – 20, we played a lot of gigs and then somewhere in the middle of life and all the drama I decided I wanted to go to school and study art… and that’s when music (playing shows anyway) was placed on the back burner.

Other than that you pretty much have the basic run down of who I am. My goal in writing this blog is to show that no matter what, life is pretty normal for LDS girls from Provo. We have hopes, dreams, fears – and I’m coming here to just let it fly. Sit back and enjoy the ride…
